• Supervised Visitation Program

Square One’s Supervised Visitation Program provides a safe and child friendly environment for visits between parents and their child or children under the supervision of the supervised visitation coordinator.

  • Square One Rewards

Incentive program for parents and earning "Square Bucks" by participating in home visits and support programs. These can be redeemed at our Rewards Store.

Mission Moments

  • Mom Squad is a vital program built to serve mothers who are homeless or at risk for homelessness.

  • The LAUNCH curriculum consists of fun, physical activities that includes topics such as conflict resolution, personal safety, hygiene, nutrition, stress reduction and more.

  • Children are inside the classroom having fun and playing games. Throw in some singing, too. What you hear is the sound of young children learning early literacy skills.

Fall Fun

October was packed with fun surprises for our Square One children and families. From pumpkin picking to trick or treating, our staff teams sure know how to make the most of the season. Thank you to our community partners who made it all possible – Big Y, Center for Human Development, Cincotta Farms, #413 Reads, and our staff and volunteers.

Classroom Collaborations

When it comes to educating our children, it truly takes a village of staff, families, and partners to achieve the level of success that we have. We couldn’t do what we do without the generous support of our donors and volunteers. We recently welcomed representatives from Excel Dryer and Christ Church Cathedral, two of our “Adopt-A-Classroom” sponsors, who visited with our preschoolers and had the opportunity to experience their donations at work.

Furry Four-legged Friend

Square One’s friends come in many shapes and sizes. Some even come on four legs! The children at our Catharine Street and Main Street classrooms recently welcomed Woody – a golden retriever mix who is trained in stress therapy. Thank you to our furry friend and his owner, Candy Lash, for bringing so many smiles to our Square One children and staff!

AIC Athletes Know the Value of Community

We are so grateful to the athletes at American International College who visit our sites regularly to enjoy quality time with our Square One children. Hard to tell who enjoys these visits more!

Battle of the Mascots

It isn’t often you come across an armadillo and a thunderbird in the same place, but that’s exactly what happened when Texas Roadhouse and the Springfield Thunderbirds joined forces to support Square One recently. As hockey players served food and drinks to the patrons, the two mascots mingled with the crowds in the dining room, collecting donations to support the programs and services Square One offers. Thank you both, the Thunderbirds and Texas Roadhouse, for supporting Square One!

What a ParTEA!

BeauTEAful hats, delicious treats and spectacular company all made for a wonderful 12th Annual Square One Tea Party.

Nothing illustrates the success of our event better than the photos that captured the smiles of our guests and speakers that day. Be sure to visit our Facebook page to view the hundreds of photos taken that day. [Be sure this links to the FB photo album of Ed’s photos].

Congratulations to Sister Mary Caritas and Werner Maiwald who won the coveted “Top Hat” contest!

Turkeys and Toys

The holidays are fast approaching and that means it’s time for our team to prepare for turkeys and toys! We will once again be collecting Thanksgiving dinners for our families – frozen turkeys and non-perishable side dishes; as well as toys and books for Santa to give out to our Square One children. For more information on how to donate, please contact Kristine Allard, Chief Development & Communication Officer at kallard@startatsquareone.org

Healthy Families Job Training

Each year the Healthy Families Program facilitates a six week group series to support participants with economic or parenting skills. This year we chose to support parents economically by connecting them with local resources around job training and higher education opportunities. A total of 15 mothers and fathers attended the group series which focused on resume building, interviewing, benefits of certificates and degrees, financial aid, scholarship opportunities and application process for higher education.

Cooking Matters

The Square One Family Center is excited to partner with Cooking Matters to offer a six-week series focused on nutrition. Cooking Matters is part of the “No Kid Hungry” campaign to end childhood hunger in America. The program teaches participants to shop smarter, use nutrition to make healthier choices and cook delicious affordable meals. (cookingmatters.org)

Health New England Cares

When it comes to volunteer support, Square One always seems to attract the very best! This year’s United Way Day of Caring proved nothing less than that. A team of 10 volunteers from Health New England turned out that day to paint our reception area and the hallways of our offices. Thank you, Health New England, for the much-needed facelift!
